I was a tutor for America Reads at a local elementary school for four semesters. The school mainly consisted of lower socioeconomic students with English as a second language. Because of this language barrier, I learned how to effectively communicate with my students and help them in any way possible, even when their homework was not in English. I have never taken for granted the subjects that have come naturally to me and enjoy helping others who have more difficulty mastering those subjects. I took AP classes all throughout high school and have maintained a 3.92 GPA through five semesters of college courses.

I have worked with students for many years, in both formal and informal settings. In that time I learned how to effectively communicate with boys and girls ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. My mother is a 6th grade teacher that specializes in helping struggling students, and she has imparted a great deal of knowledge to me on how to effectively assess a student's strengths and weaknesses while providing support that genuinely helps them learn the material. I believe that many students in today's educational system do not receive the individual attention necessary to help them succeed, and that is what drives me to help each student in any way possible.
