Experience

My main focuses in my degrees were in music composition and theory. This involved studying music from throughout the classical music tradition, all the way up to the present day. My theory degree was also very analysis intensive, and as a part of my coursework I have written many analytical papers on music from the classical canon, including a thesis for which I did independent research on an unstudied contemporary work. I did additional (non-music) coursework in French, German, and Computer Science (emphasis on C/C++). My degrees had a heavy emphasis on analytical writing in the field of music, but I have plenty of experience writing for other subjects, including history and english. I completed AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry, receiving college credit for both. I also have experience helping my university classmates on an individual basis. In addition, I have studied saxophone, bassoon, and piano and have ample experience playing clarinet and flute as well. I also do part-time work as a music engraver, preparing musical scores, parts, and excerpts both for performance and for use in academic documents. This is very detail-oriented work that requires not only music literacy but also an eye for good design and a knowledge of music performance practice. I want to be a tutor because I know that not everybody innately knows how to be a good student. I believe that beyond whatever subjects one might excel at (math, natural sciences, literature, music, art, etc.), being a good student is a skill in and of itself. I have that skill, and I want to be able to share it with other people!

Hobbies

I'm a musician, so I have quite a broad musical palette! My main interests at the moment are music for video games, sample-based electronic music, pre-Romantic classical music, and late 20th century through contemporary classical music. I myself compose music in many styles, from Baroque to Classical to modern esoteric sound collage. In my spare time I transcribe music (i.e. make musical scores) from recordings to learn how they are put together. I also have a passion for video games, especially those from the early 90s through the mid 2000s. I am also interested in contemporary art and illustration, and am slowly but surely teaching myself how to draw. Studying computer science while at UNT has sparked an interest in me to learn more about the subject; I have a strong understanding of the basics of syntax and style for many languages, but I am currently learning how to apply these concepts to my fields of interest (music, art, game and web design).
